It is a reward to the Bowler for his outstanding display with the ball throughout the season.

Cricket, especially the shorter format is said to be a Batsman’s game. The T20 format has been specially designed to see maximum runs being scored in the least number of balls. The presence of Power Plays and flat pitches recently have made the game for Bowlers even tougher.

In spite of all the odds, there are some Bowlers which are extremely talented and keep the ability to change the course of the game any day.

After the introduction of Orange Cap on 25 April 2008, Purple Cap in IPL was announced on 13 May 2008.

During the course of the tournament, the Bowler with the most number of Wickets would wear the Purple Cap while fielding and at the end of the tournament the Bowler with most number of Wickets would be awarded the Purple Cap Award after the conclusion of the Finals.

Sohail Tanvir was the first player to be awarded the Purple Cap in IPL, In 11 matches he took 22 Wickets.

Dwayne Bravo took 32 Wickets in 2013 which is the most number of Wickets by any Bowler in a single Tournament.

IPL is a two-month-long Cricketing Fest in which we can see players leave their National colors apart and unite for their Franchises.

IPL is governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and has an exclusive window in the ICC Future Tours Programme.

The Tournament is contested during March or April and May every year by eight teams representing eight different Cities in India.

From the year 2022, two new teams will be added to the tournament which will make it even more exciting and full of action.

IPL is one of the most attended and richest tournaments in the world. According to BCCI in 2015, IPL contributed ₹ 11.5 Billion to the GDP of the Indian Economy.
